When did you know the photography/video industry was for you? I have always wanted to be a storyteller, from my earliest memories until now. I knew that I wanted to go into a creative profession. How did you get your current position? At first I thought writing would be best for me, but then I discovered filmmaking and fell in love with the visual medium. What I didn’t love, however, was how long it took to make a film and how necessarily collaborative it was. That was when I picked up my still camera and decided to become a photographer. How did your training or schooling prepare you for your…

Photographer Spotlight: Kirk Marsh
Kirk Marsh When did you know the photography/video industry was for you? I still don’t know that the photography industry is for me. I have a love/hate relationship with creating images for money as opposed to art or personal reasons. It is always a challenge for me to create a piece for someone else when I have so many visions of how I want to see things for myself. Emotions and stories are the most important thing to me and since I cannot draw, and I don’t feel like a great writer, I create photographs that can tell stories. Storytelling is what photographs do so well, and through composite work, it is possible…

When did you know the photography/video industry was for you? I attended Art college and was a Printmaking major and did a lot of painting and drawing. When I graduated from college I started working as an artist’s assistant & gallery installation assistant. I realized very quickly that a career in the fine arts is not as romantic as it sounds. Too much time spent on trying to get shows & obtaining grants spurred my interest in taking computer graphics classes at the School of Visual Arts in NYC in the early ‘90s. I immediately fell in love with Photoshop and have given my soul to it ever since. How did…

When did you know the photography/video industry was for you? I’ve been doing photography for a few years now. I started it mostly as a hobby and an emotional outlet. I did a lots paid assignments but it really wasn’t until the beginning of 2016 when my fiance, the father of my daughter passed away when I decided to be serious and turn my photography hobby into a business. Sometimes difficult times in life give you perspective. In my case, it showed me that life is fragile and short. I was depressed and had the responsibility of raising two kids on my own. But I couldn’t stand the idea of having to…

Photographer Spotlight Dixie Dixon
When did you know the photography/video industry was for you? I would definitely have to say when my image made the cover of the yearbook in high school… I can remember the feeling that went along with that. I was very shy growing up (still an introvert today) and so my camera served as my sidekick in exploring the world and a way to get outside of my comfort zone! I’ve been in love ever since.. its been such an adventure! How did you get your current position? I launched my business- Dixie Dixon Photography now Dixie Dixon Inc. while in college shooting everything ranging from portraits, events, products, and etc to…
